The Baltic Sea Advisory Council (BSAC) is seeking a new Executive Secretary. This is a full-time position.

The BSAC is one of 11 Advisory Councils established by the European Union to increase stakeholder involvement in the development of a successful Common Fisheries Policy (CFP). The main aim of the BSAC is to prepare and provide advice on the management of Baltic Sea fisheries.
The Executive Secretary is the senior operational officer of the BSAC Secretariat and plays a central role in coordinating stakeholder input, financial management, and the delivery of high-quality advice under the Common Fisheries Policy.
The position is based in Copenhagen, at the BSAC headquarters. The Executive Secretary is expected to be based in Denmark.

Starting date

March 2026

Responsibilities and tasks include:

  • Lead and manage the day-to-day operations of the BSAC Secretariat
  • Manage expenditure and financial accounting of the BSAC and ensure compliance with EU funding rules, grant agreements and applicable financial reporting requirements
  • Ensure that all obligations, agreements, contracts and other legal commitments of the BSAC are fulfilled and maintained
  • Draft, monitor and, where necessary, adjust the annual budget and work programme
  • Coordinate all activities with the BSAC Management Team
  • Prepare and support BSAC meetings (internal and external)
  • Work closely with the BSAC Rapporteur on drafting reports and recommendations, gathering information, and producing newsletters
  • Draft, coordinate and finalise BSAC recommendations, advice and position papers for submission to EU institutions and Member States
  • Ensure that meeting reports are finalised and distributed after each meeting
  • Maintain and update the BSAC website
  • Manage reimbursement of members’ travel and accommodation costs
  • Coordinate with the European Commission, Member States and other relevant organisations and bodies
  • Maintain close contact with BSAC members, including membership details and lists
  • Keep abreast of relevant developments, meetings and information in the BSAC’s work area and ensure effective information flow and dissemination

Qualifications and work experience:

  • EU citizen or holder of EU residency
  • University degree or equivalent qualification in a relevant field
  • At least three years of relevant professional experience working with the EU Common Fisheries Policy, including advisory processes, stakeholder consultation or regulatory implementation
  • Fluency in written and spoken English is essential; knowledge of other Baltic Sea languages is an asset (Danish is particularly useful)
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Experience in financial management
  • Ability to work independently, exercise sound judgement and manage confidential information
  • Good IT skills, including Microsoft Office

Salary

The salary will be based on qualifications and aligned with comparable civil service positions in Denmark. The final salary will reflect qualifications, experience and responsibilities of the position.
The position is a local recruitment and subject to Danish taxation.

Additional information

The position involves a high level of cooperation, both internally and externally. Applicants should expect approximately 25–30 days of travel per year.
