The 2040 Vision will provide a coherent framework for policy deliverables related to the needs of the EU fisheries and aquaculture sector. It will be informed by ongoing discussions on achieving a level playing field, strengthening food security, conserving marine biological resources, and implementing reforms and innovation. By using these discussions as a basis, the aim is to improve competitiveness, generational renewal and skills, drive forward the green, digital and social transition and develop coastal and island communities. Furthermore, the 2040 Vision will touch upon access to financing to achieve these objectives and focus on simplification so that they are achieved in a cost-effective way.
The Commission will seek to gather information from the various stakeholders involved in the fisheries and aquaculture value chain. Moreover, its consultation strategy will be explicitly geared towards building consensus across interest groups and public authorities on a shared vision for the future of the sector to 2040.
